A New Low for the World
I haven’t posted anything here for a while. Every day the news about Israel gets worse. Well-respected journalists and news sources continue to present a twisted reality or out-and-out lies. Propaganda against the Jewish people spreads and picks up momentum, evolving into an avalanche of acceptable antisemitism. Frankly, I’m exhausted and I assumed everyone must be, too.
But this week, I’m commenting because I think we’ve reached a new low. A Jewish friend who is married to a Palestinian-Canadian posted a message on his social media, something along the lines of, “Attention, fellow Jews. It’s time we stood up and said something about Israel’s war crimes, murders of innocent Palestinians, etc.” As you might imagine, his post received enormous response. Some of his Jewish friends actually tried to correct him by presenting history and truth, but many more of his friends applauded him for his “bravery” in speaking up. One of his fans wrote “I was anti-Zionist way before it was cool.”
I was anti-Zionist way before it was cool. There are so many offensive things about that statement that I hardly know where to begin.
1. The guy is anti-Zionist, which essentially means that he doesn’t believe in a Jewish state, so that’s the end of Israel. That alone is a disturbing thought.
2. The guy is not afraid to state it openly, not anonymously, on a Facebook page that is seen by thousands. What ever happened to antisemites keeping their hatred quiet for fear of being labeled racist?!
3. He actually states that it’s now “cool” to be anti-Zionist. Wow.4. The guy is bragging that he was ahead of the curve, hating Israel long ago. He was a pioneer, a trailblazer, and wants to be acknowledged as such.
In the responses posted, not one person challenged this statement. It’s no wonder we Jews are scared. Since October 7, Jewish communities around the world have been living with growing, public, shameless antisemitism. Many take action. Others, more often than not, turn their heads and silently pray that it will go away. The fact that this hatred has become a source of pride for antisemites tells me we are entering something that no one could imagine since the Holocaust.
Folks, our world is changing before our very eyes. Overall, we’re more united than we had been before October 7, but there’s a new generation out there that is threatening everything we Jews have ever fought for, prayed for, and believed in. Let us open our eyes and open our mouths. It’s not going away on its own. We have a Jewish state, a beautiful culture, a value for life and Tikun Olam. Our people make positive impacts in every field on the global stage — science and medicine, the arts, technology and more. Let us correct the narrative for all. You know what’s really cool? Israel. Zionism. The Jewish People.
Am Yisrael Chai!
