Just the Facts: A 3-Minute History

A Friday Message from Aliza

Today marks 700 days that the hostages are in captivity in Gaza.  It is also the 53rd anniversary of the massacre at the Munich Olympics, a massacre which began with hostage-taking. Why do we keep facing these crises?  Why do we continue to be the target? Why are we so hated, not only by the Arab world but by mere ignoramuses who have been swept up by the bandwagon?  In trying to wrap my head around all this, I came across a recent video of Naftali Bennett rattling off a 3-minute History of Israel during an interview. I found it worth sharing as there is no shortage of people who still do not know these facts.  Read, learn, memorize, and share:

The Jewish People first entered the Land of Israel 3,300 years ago, and everyone can read that in the Bible. Assuming you don’t believe the Bible, then you can look at archeology which shows evidence from about 3,000 years ago.

There’s no dispute that the Jewish People founded their first commonwealth, the Kingdom of David, 3,000 years ago. It was destroyed (by Nebuchadnezzar). We were kicked out, we came back and founded the second Commonwealth of Israel which went on for several hundred years. Again, it was destroyed, this time by the Romans.

Some Jews stayed in Israel, but the rest were kicked out, all across the world. Every day, they prayed three times a day to return to Israel.  It was a pretty lousy 2,000 years. You know: Pogroms, the Holocaust. But about 150 years ago, secular Jews – primarily Herzl, Jabotinsky, and others – took the initiative, saying “Let’s come back to our own homeland. The Jews are the indigenous people of the Land of Israel.”

The term “Palestine” was coined by the Romans in order to disassociate from the place that was called Judea.  Until now it had no connection to Arabs for the simple reason that Arabs arrived in the land of Palestine only 600 years later, during the Arab conquest. There were no Arabs in the Land of Israel.  But yes, throughout those 1,400 years, very slowly, Arabs came, primarily, mostly, when Jews returned in the 19th century.

Then the world decided to bring a solution, a tough solution, to both sides: To divide the land between a Jewish state and an Arab state. It was not called “Palestinian.” Jews said yes, Arabs said no. This was the Peel Commission. 1937.

Fast forward, 1947. The UN came up with the same sort of idea: Divide into a Jewish state and an Arab state. Jews said yes.  Arabs said no, attacked the Jews and wanted to kill all the Jews. The Jews fought back, won. During that war, 600,000 Arabs that had been living in smaller Israel fled, and some of them were also expelled, because that’s what happens when you try to kill your enemy and you lose. That’s what has happened throughout history.

We founded the State of Israel, and that’s where we are now. So the State of Israel is the THIRD time we have a Jewish state on our indigenous land. We have two million Arabs living in the State of Israel, full Israeli citizens. They vote, they serve on court, they pay taxes. They enjoy full equal rights.

That’s the story of Israel.

From Aliza:
Did you get all that?  Read it again until you have the full story. And don’t ever hesitate to correct the crazy, vicious, untrue narrative that is circulating. Let this THIRD time be the one that lasts, with no more hostages, no more massacres, just peace for the Jewish People.

Am Yisrael Chai!
